Tauhara Geothermal Station will be a 150 MW geothermal plant, New Zealand’s most significant renewable investment. This is only the first part of a broader pipeline of geothermal projects which include ensuring ongoing generation from the Wairakei Geothermal Field and further investments on the Tauhara field, so we are not short of market leading renewable projects for you to get involved in.
Te Whiwhinga mahi The opportunity
As the Drilling and Projects Engineer for Tauhara you’ll be working on our fleet of existing geothermal wells or assisting the drilling of new ones in our pipeline of geothermal growth opportunities.
As Drilling and Projects Engineer you will;
Develop business proposals for drilling, cleaning out, modifying and abandoning geothermal production, monitoring and re-injection wells.
Complete detailed and well-thought-out job designs and work programmes for drilling, workover, and abandonment operations.
Prepare technical specifications for drilling services, equipment and materials.
Conduct technical reviews and summary reporting of well drilling and intervention operations.
Prepare cost estimates for well construction and interventions, and report on operational progress.
Collate and provide timely and concise well-related review and recommendations to other functionary groups within Contact Energy.
Liaise and work closely with other groups, e.g. reservoir engineering, project execution and steamfield operations to ensure all work campaign are executed in accordance with the wider business needs.
Keep up to date with and comply with environmental, drilling and safety regulations, particularly working within the requirements of the New Zealand Code of Practice for Deep Geothermal Wells NZS2403 : 2015.

Like any opportunity, there are some key attributes that we would like to add to our bench strength. You will have plenty of examples where you have been involved in :
Applicable engineering degree aligned to well drilling
History of innovative problem solving based on engineering principles
Experience in the field of well drilling, design, application, programme development and initiation
Experience in Geothermal well drilling design
Experience in drilling operation management
Experience in well intervention programmes, including well workovers, cleanouts, valve changes and abandonments.
Experience in engagement of Contractors to complete a well drilling programme
Knowledge of reservoir engineering analysis and management
Experience in preparing written reports, work scope specifications, tender and contract documents.
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language
Proven computer skills including skills in the use of the Microsoft suite of products.
Curiosity and comfort in working in the grey’, relying on best data and engineering principles to guide you.
Willingness to canvas diversity of thought.
