As the Parliamentary Communications, Research and Policy Assistant to Tamati Coffey MP you'll put your communication, research skills and policy knowledge into action in this unique and rewarding environment.

This is a six months fixed term role and could be based in Rotorua working out of Tamati's Electorate and Community Office, or working on Parliamentary precinct in Wellington.

We are looking for someone with strong coordination and time management skills plus the ability to multi task and meet deadlines.

You'll be well-known for your resilient and adaptable nature.

This role is a varied and multifaceted one where on any given day your responsibilities may include :

  • Assisting your MP with developing an engaging communications strategy
  • Using your research skills to interpret and collate data, compile statistics and produce reports
  • Assisting your MP to develop their private Members Bill
  • Drafting informative and concise speeches or press releases for your MP
  • Engaging with your community / constituents via social media
  • Communicating complex issues in everyday language via a range of media / communication channels
  • As an employee of Parliamentary Service you will be impartial in your role. Awareness of the political landscape may be beneficial in supporting your MP.

    You'll appreciate the sometimes unpredictable nature of this environment and instead of letting it faze you, you thrive on it.

    To ensure our people feel supported and enabled to grow and develop their career, you will receive a Parliamentary Service induction to set you up to succeed within this environment.

    This is a six months fixed term role linked to the MP, working 40 hours per week. Some flexibility in hours may be required.

    The appointing salary band for this role is $55,752 to $69,690 per annum. Appointments will be based on your skills and experience.
