NIWA is New Zealand's largest and pre-eminent provider of climate, freshwater and marine science.
We are seeking an experienced statistician to provide analytical expertise, primarily in statistics but also in general mathematics and modelling to cover a wide range of NIWA's environmental research and consultancy projects.
You will be undertaking both non-parametric and parametric statistical analysis of our large environmental data sets (including some data entry, compiling, mining and analyzing of data), providing mathematical and statistical mentoring, coaching and advice, and conducting statistical-
based risk assessments. There is an expectation that you will also be involved in, and at times, taking responsibility for developing research programmes and undertaking consultancy projects.
You will need to have a PhD in mathematics or statistics and several years' experience in carrying out scientific research and applying a range of modern statistical approaches.
Proficiency in the use of R (or equivalent software) is essential and a reasonable knowledge of water quality and water resources concepts will be advantageous.
