The Pasifika Education Centre (PEC) is a Charitable Trust and a Private Training Establishment (PTE) established in 1978 to deliver services to Pacific families in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Over it’s more than 40 year history, its focus has always been to support Pasifika peoples in NZ; in the early years it was to help new immigrants settle into NZ, and nowadays it’s supporting NZ-born Pacific peoples to revitalise and maintain their heritage languages.
PEC is New Zealand’s only NZ Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Registered PTE with NZQA Approved training schemes, specifically dedicated to teaching Pacific languages.
PEC’s main aims are to : Revitalise Pacific languages, ensuring that they are linguistically and culturally sustainedTo engage in meaningful advocacy with, and work alongside stakeholders to drive the achievement of culturally linguistic and sustainable language revitalisation.
Achieve excellent and long-lasting results including a strong, financially sustainable organisation.PEC delivers adult community Pacific language programmes funded through the Ministry for Pacific Peoples.
Courses are targeted at Pacific learners and those non-Pacific students wishing to learn a Pasifika language and culture with the overall goal of thriving Pacific languages, cultures and identities.
Additionally, we offer a reference library onsite as well as an online bookstore, and we offer our flagship Koloa cultural competency workplace development workshops with the aim of assisting organisations to be more inclusive of Pasifika culture, languages and values to better support their own staff and / or customers.
The strategic intent of this position is to lead and design business opportunities that increase revenue. On an operational level, this translates to identifying new opportunities and growing existing bases, in order to deliver revenue growth.
The role is responsible for all aspects of the current non-government funded services as well as new business opportunities driving business sustainability by securing new funding streams.
The position will also be responsible for driving the organisational brand to the forefront, promoting PEC as THE Pacific languages and cultures hub of Aotearoa NZ.
Developing an overall business development strategy focused on financial gain, you will drive sustainable financial growth establishment of business opportunities and forging strong relationships with existing and potential clients.
A key component of the role will be the effective management of existing resources, adhering to quality management systems, and contributing to the overall to deliver excellent services.
This will require working collaboratively and in partnership to achieve long-term, sustainable outcomes.Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, this is a critical position to both ongoing growth and future success of the organisation.
MFAT, MBIE, MSD and other relevant DHBs with the goal of positioning PEC as the go-to supplier for language translations and corporate training for cultural competency.
Connecting with corporate communities seeking support for cultural competency workforce development programmes, will also see you working at all levels of the Pasifika communities, utilising your expert relationship building and skills in nurturing trust-based bonds with others.
Programme management experience in an education environment is highly desirable, as is a tertiary qualification; however qualification may be offset by considerable experience.
Skills knowledge and experience required in this position will include;The proven experience working in a Pacific organisation with Pacific clients and stakeholders.
Experience as a successful BDM, sales executive or in similar position.A proven sales track record and level of comfort working to KPI’s.
Sound business acumen and market knowledge.Strong communication and negotiation skills and the ability to build rapport and trust.
Proficiency in MS Office and CRM software.Expert relationship building capabilities.Self-motivation and passion in all you deliver.
Strong report and tender writing abilities.The ability to prepare service agreements with accuracy remembering in a small organisation you will require self-sufficiency.
The self-confidence and natural ability to present to and with engage an audience.Project management and project planning skills.
Fluency in a Pasifika language is highly desirable.Data analysis and the ability to highlight insights from the data, to drive strategyResponding to RFPs and EOIs via GETS website, you will actively be seeking out alternative funding opportunities, and be already familiar with the tender process.
This is a small business setting and you will relish working with minimal management or direct oversight and be a self-starter with initiative to prioritise competing work tasks.
Providing effective and efficient project management, you will set about managing administration and coordination in a quality and sustainable way, whilst having oversight of the daily functional operations of the organisation to ensure ongoing compliance, sustainability, and leadership in the sector.
You will be highly effective at managing and minimising risk, self-managing yet not afraid to ask for help, and a quick learner who is able to pivot and retain the learnings for future opportunities.
