About the role

Reporting to the Manager Crown Entity Monitoring and Appointments, the Principal Advisor will lead our work with monitored Crown Entities.

You will be responsible for monitoring the financial and non-financial aspects of our monitored entities and providing high quality advice on their performance to Ministers.

You will bring your private and / or public sector understanding of commercial entities. Your excellent relationship management skills will be critical to providing effective assistance and advice to Ministers.

Your role will involve working with others, particularly with The Treasury, on performance and balance sheet issues. You will quickly design and deliver robust analysis and advice, identify and develop key relationships both internally and externally, and provide guidance and support to others in the wider team.

A confident communicator you will be comfortable working with senior decision makers at Kāinga Ora Homes and Communities, HUD and with other agencies we provide information, advice and support to.

Your experience will include :

  • Ability to quickly build rapport and credibility with internal and external stakeholders and maintain strong relationships
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral, including experience in writing Ministerial advice.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate new information or areas of work and come to an understanding of unfamiliar and complex issues
  • Ability to quickly identify ways of thinking about complex problems or issues and possible pathways forward
  • A strong understanding of the processes that underpin the operations of the public-sector environment, including policy development, Ministerial processes, accountability and reporting.
  • A strong understanding of, and experience operating in, the public-sector environment
  • Crown entity monitoring, or organizational performance and planning, experience
