With a large programme of infrastructure projects on the horizon, it couldn't be a better time for a standout Environmental Planner to join our national team, in a role based in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga or Wellington .

You will be part of a collaborative national planning and engagement team that works on some of the biggest planning challenges facing New Zealand today.

We are seeking someone with great problem-solving skills who works collaboratively to create lasting community benefits together with our clients.

We are involved across the project life-cycle, from developing and setting policy, contributing to business cases, developing strategies and securing consents, engaging with stakeholders, project delivery and monitoring and compliance.

This exciting opportunity will see you :

  • Providing technical planning input and delivery of tasks for a wide range of projects including water, transport, public buildings, and land or asset development, involving preparation of Assessments of Environmental Effects, scoping of planning requirements for projects, preparation of submissions on planning documents, and other planning services
  • Meeting client needs by working closely with and for existing and new clients. Understanding internal and external clients’ needs and working with the team to support these
  • Preparing submissions and marketing material in response to tender opportunities and client requests
  • Involved in task management of planning inputs into multi-disciplinary projects, coordination of technical inputs from team members and sub consultants, and project management for some projects
  • Consulting and liaising with consent authorities, iwi, stakeholders, landowners, public, interest groups, affected parties.
  • Open, inclusive communication with the Team Leader and other leaders within the business

  • Contributing as part of a dynamic national team that works collaboratively across our GHD regions to deliver services across NZ
  • Working with our leading technical specialists to develop your planning skills with opportunities to build a strong planning career across a range of planning work
  • Involved in our diverse, collaborative and supportive GHD culture.
  • What you will bring to the team :

  • A relevant planning qualification (a New Zealand Planning Institute-recognised qualification is preferred) with 3 or more years post-grad experience
  • Experience in regional council, local council or private sector planning with experience in consenting infrastructure projects desirable
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the NZ planning system, relevant legislation and planning documents
  • Enthusiasm to work collaboratively with other technical disciplines on multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects
  • Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in business development and client liaison is desirable
  • Full membership of the NZPI or working towards this
  • A full NZ driver’s licence.
