About this role

The Commerce Commission is New Zealand's competition, consumer and regulatory agency. Our mission is to make New Zealanders better off by ensuring our markets work well and consumers and businesses are confident participants in those markets.

We are looking for an Analyst / Senior Analyst to join our Performance Analysis team in the Energy, Airports and Dairy portfolio.

This is a full-time, (fixed-term position for 24 months), based in our Wellington office.

The role

You will have the opportunity to work on multiple projects assessing the performance of regulated suppliers and answering key questions for the sector.

You will be significantly involved in leading and designing analysis using data obtained through the information disclosure process, conducting the analysis and presenting your findings.

You'll also be key in working collaboratively with our stakeholders, both internal and external to refine our analysis and present information in a variety of ways to target different audiences.

What you will have

Experience working in a fast-paced project team environment, you'll be proactive and solutions-focused and be able to think, write and communicate clearly for a wide range of audiences.

You will be inquisitive with sound critical thinking skills and be comfortable facilitating meetings with stakeholders.

You will also have experience in some of the following :

  • Financial or economic modelling
  • Analytical tools such as excel, Tableau, Power BI
  • The ability to interpret quantitative information to tell a story
  • Relationship management skills
  • Sector experience in electricity, gas or airports
  • A university degree in an analytical field (e.g. commerce, economics, statistics) as well as regulation experience would be an advantage but is not essential.
