The role

  • Leading FMCG food manufacturer
  • Collect insights from detailed category analysis to support strategy
  • Based in Auckland
  • We have an exciting new opportunity for an agile category professional to join our Commercial marketing team. We have a fantastic portfolio of household brands in John West, Leggos, Birds Eye, and Edgell.

    This role will concentrate on building our portfolio across a broad range of categories in canned fish, vegetables and sauces as well as frozen seafood and potato products.

    What you will do

    Based at our Auckland office and reporting to the Marketing Manager, you will be responsible for driving actionable category and shopper insights to support the achievement of the annual budget.

    You will develop Category & Shopper plans, identify targeted shopper marketing opportunities and lead category planning / reviews with customers.

    The role will also provide support for the management of the Commercial Planning process of the NZ Retail Business.

  • Lead the team in developing a deep understanding of the categories;
  • Recommend changes in strategy consistent with insights from detailed category analysis;
  • Proactively provide regular & ad-hoc category performance analysis;
  • Support the team with scan data related queries and reporting analysis;
  • Facilitate training of teams in the use of the relevant data tools;
  • Taking the lead as "Category Advisor" for category reviews across multiple categories and customers;
  • Develop fact based Ranging & Shelf Layout Strategies;
  • Support the Commercial Planning process for the retail business; and
  • Lead Customer specific Category Management Projects.
  • What you will bring

  • You understand sales and hold a solid analytical background ideally within the Food or FMCG industry to deliver insights.
  • You hold a strong foundation in the use of Nielsen / IRI software, and the ability to tell simple and compelling stories derived from complex data.
  • You are comfortable presenting to customers / category buyers, senior leaders and peers in the team.
  • You possess a strong influencing style.
  • A strong attention to detail combined with the ability to multi-task and prioritise your work.
  • Most importantly, you have a strong commercial acumen and be an energetic, enthusiastic and proactive team player.
