About the role

To provide liaisonand consultation to and between Courts, Prisons, JusticeDepartments, Mental Health, Police, Government andCommunity Agencies on mental health and addiction matters and the management ofassociated problems within the identified agency.

The nurse utilises clinicaland medical-legal knowledge and skills to provide a quality rapid assessment ofthose persons identified as having or who may have a mental health andaddiction problem.

The Registered Nurse(RN) working for the MHAID 3DHB Services will have a desire to develop in anarea of nursing; will have the ability to work using a team nursing approach,within the wider Multidisciplinary Team (MDT),demonstrate values consistent with those of the MHAID 3DHB Services and will becommitted to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.


  • Demonstrate professional, legal andethical responsibilities and cultural safety. These include being able todemonstrate knowledge and judgement and being accountable for own actions anddecisions, while promoting an environment that maximises patients safety,independence, quality of life and health.
  • Client assessment and managing client care, whichis responsive to clients needs, and which is supported by nursing knowledgeand evidence based research
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and therapeuticcommunication with clients, other nursing staff and interprofessionalcommunication and documentation
  • Demonstrate that, as a member of the health careteam; the nurse evaluates the effectiveness of care and promotes a nursingperspective within the inter-professional activities of the team
  • Skills & Experience

  • Knowledgeand understanding of the relevant legislation, standards and guidelines
  • Registration withthe Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse with a currentpractising certificate
  • Activeinvolvement and progression along the PDRP and by Expert RN level a postgraduate qualification or working towards this or equivalent learning
  • Effective working relationships with staffand management
  • Following process (alsodiscerning when a situation may require a slightly different process withinpolicy and procedural confines)
  • Accuracy andconfidentiality
  • Integrity, trust, goodorganisation skills and effective time management

    Capital and Coast DHB (CCDHB) is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region.

    CCDHB operates two hospitals Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua as well as the Kapiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

    The (MHAIDS) spans three DHBs - Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHB s and includes local, regional, and national services.

    The local MHAIDS services are provided from multiple sites within the 3DHB sub-region greater Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa.
