If you've always wanted to apply your skills to a large-scale Kiwi success story, then today is your lucky day - as we are on the lookout for a System Specialist to join us here at ASB!

About us :

We're not your average bank and break the assumptions of tech in banking being old and decrepit (yay us!). We embrace innovation at speed, using modern tools and technologies to get us ahead of the game and stay there.

You'll be part of a team that are on the forefront of working to deliver a secure, functional and performant product that delights our customers every day.

In our diverse and accepting environment, our people grow their agile mind-set, learn, evolve and utilise their skills, while being empowered to make decisions.

About the role :

As part of a larger team providing the foundational technologies behind ASB, we're looking for the right people to build and facilitate the implementation and evolution of modern observability services and practices across and on behalf of our ENTIRE ASB technology team.

It's a large ongoing responsibility; a typical day might see us considering how a team can understand what the right choice is between using Docker and Kubernetes for their container management, how we can proactively understand the impact of moving to the latest version of Windows for a 20-year-old legacy application, or what's the latest unnecessary toil we can remove from a team just by better managing our data points?

As a Systems Specialist with an interest and desire to work on observability, you'll be keen to be part of a squad focussed on providing solutions to these types of challenges.

You'll not only possess the technical skills to drive the implementation and scaling of modern monitoring, logging and alerting systems, but you'll have the voice to collaborate with other engineering teams and share your ideas on what the future could and should hold for observability at ASB.

This will include the following responsibilities :

  • Identifying and configuring data collection points from source systems or existing tooling
  • Building observability into our foundational technologies
  • Working with teams to meet their observability needs using appropriate alerting and dashboards
  • Operating the underlying hardware ensuring it meeting the capacity and performance needs of customers
  • About you :

We'll value your proven initiative, problem solving abilities and leadership skills as we look for every engineer to lead from their position.

With regards to background, you might have the following capabilities :

  • Experience with the Elastic stack of technologies in an observability context is a must.
  • Experience with AppDynamics will also be a huge advantage.
  • Experience operating the underlying hardware to run large scale observability solutions
  • Solid understanding and experience with a variety of technology logging and tracing mechanisms.
  • In addition, any of the following would be a huge bonus :

  • Experience specifically with Elasticsearch
  • Programming or scripting skills, especially in Groovy, JS or Python
  • Experience in defining Service Level Indicators and Objectives
  • Experience with other observability and monitoring tools like Grafana / Promethius or Nagios
  • What's in it for you :

We offer a competitive salary and bonus, great banking benefits, heaps of personal and career development opportunities, flexible working styles, extra holidays and parental benefits.

If we've nailed our pitch and this role sounds like it might be the one for you then please click "apply" we'd love to hear from you!
