    Are you someone who enjoys working with people and providing excellent customer service? Do you love exploring the outdoors and inspire others to do the same?

    Do you have enthusiasm and an active interest in conservation?

    If yes, then this job is definitely for you!

    The Haast Visitor Centre is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to provide high quality conservation, recreation and tourism information in this busy visitor centre for the upcoming summer.

    We are looking for a team member who sets the bar high in their professionalism, who is not afraid of hard work and is able to show initiative and solve problems as they arise.

    Our ideal applicant will have :

  • Experience and demonstrated competence in customer service and retail sales
  • Active interest in outdoor pursuits and conservation
  • Genuine enthusiasm when speaking to visitors about recreation and tourism opportunities within the Haast area and the West Coast of New Zealand
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to maintain high standards while working under pressure
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word and Excel
  • The position involves working weekends and public holidays and applicants must be prepared to fulfil this requirement.
  • Applicants must also be available for the full period of employment from 8 October 2019 to 17 April 2020.
  • The ability to pronounce Te Reo Māori, an understanding of Tikanga Māori and the ability to converse in a second language would be advantageous
  • The role varies from day to day and can include :

  • providing visitors with up to date information about recreational opportunities, local conservation projects, current and forecast weather, condition of tracks and huts
  • promoting and selling national and local conservation recreation opportunities, including Great Walks bookings
  • promoting and selling conservation merchandise
