Compliance Officer Wildlife About us The National Compliance team at the Department of Conservation are responsible for delivering an exceptional compliance function to achieve conservation outcomes and gains It is an exciting time to join the team as we embark on a phase of strengthening our wildlife compliance and law enforcement activities and capability The Role As the Compliance Officer Wildlife you will work collaboratively within DOCs National Compliance Team to detect and deter wildlife crime including the smuggling of New Zealands native species You will be handling a Conservation Dog as part of those activities Working with a Principal Compliance Officer and the wider National Compliance Team youll be at the front line of operational compliance and law enforcement work The functions of this role will also include Training housing and handling a Conservation Dog to be used in the detection of native wildlife Working with the Principal Compliance Officers and National Compliance Team to investigate breaches of legislation with a focus on wildlife crime Preparing prosecution recommendations in response to serious breaches of the Departments legislation Working with the Departments Legal and Permissions teams to compile and analyse evidence of breaches of wildlife permits Assisting the National Compliance Team in responding to alerts at the border Identifying opportunities to develop information and intelligence sources for current and historic offending to help inform the Departments response to wildlife crime We are seeking a driven and focused officer with experience of operational enforcement within a regulatory agency You will be comfortable handling and working with animals and working as part of a distributed team The successful applicant will be competent in compliance and law enforcement delivery with knowledge of legislation relating to wildlife crime desirable People like working for us because we offer the following Competitive remuneration A supportive and collaborative work environment The opportunity to work for the multiple award winner of the most attractive employer in the public sector Respect recognition and opportunities for personal growth Excellent employee wellbeing initiatives including the employee assistance program and discounted insurance Free accommodation in our backcountry huts and campsites as well as general travel and accommodation discounts Job satisfaction from contributing to crucial and meaningful work Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally Please apply online at the DOC Careers Centre Applications must include a cover letter CV and evidence of the required capabilities as per the role description For any queries please contact Dylan Swain dswain doc govt nz or telephone 029 7710422 quoting vacancy 400 9554 Applications close at 5pm on Monday 8 October 2019 DOC is committed to a diverse workforce that represents the communities we serve and to creating an inclusive workplace culture
