    We provide a range of services to families and communities, including social work, counselling, mediation, mentoring and parenting support.

  • Family Works programs include social work; support with families experiencing family violence; ongoing counselling support to adults, couples, youth, children and families;
  • group and individual programme for Tamariki and Wāhine who have experienced trauma; parenting programme; family dispute resolution.

    PSC’s services for Tamariki and their whānau are provided by Family Works, while our services for older people are provided by Enliven.

    Our Family Works services support children, young people, families and communities who have experienced trauma, family violence, separation, poverty, stress and anxiety, to have a safer and brighter future.

    PSC is a charity incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957. While we operate as a separate entity to the Presbyterian Church, our name is a celebration of our beginnings, our heritage and the values we share.

    About the Role

    We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Counsellor who has a good understanding of family and child context. In this role you’ll deliver counselling and related support to families and whanau.

    You can expect to be looking after a busy caseload where no two days are the same. It involves the provision of social work, group work and related services to individuals, adults, adolescents, couples, families and whanau.

    You will be involved in working with children, families and individuals affected by domestic violence and other issues.

    The role is full time 40 hours per week, based in our Whanganui office.

    About You

    You will be a passionate, energetic person with the ability to connect to children and their families.

    You will be knowledgeable, organised and have excellent communication skills. Your approach to your work will be with kindness, good understanding of the counselling Modalities and process and above all, the drive to do right by the Client.

    In addition to being a passionate counsellor, you will also have :

  • Experience working with vulnerable individuals, couples, whanau, youth and children
  • Membership with a professional organisation
  • Flexible, skilled, safe and creative approaches in supporting vulnerable people.
  • Experience working with family violence and trauma
  • Experience facilitating group programs (Adult and children)
  • A positive approach and ability to work in a collaborative team
