If yes, then read on : Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the RoleReporting directly to the Team Manager Animal Welfare & NAIT Liaison & Coordinator Support this unique role will work closely with the wider Compliance Directorate and in particular the Compliance Officers, to support operational responses and investigations pertaining to incidents involving animal welfare in the primary production sector.

You will support the wider Compliance Directorate by :

  • Being responsible for ensuring efficient recording of and response to animal welfare incidents.
  • Receiving information and complaints about animal welfare neglect via a 0800 hotline and accurately acquire and record information.
  • Entering information into a database, prioritise, and then send to Compliance Officers throughout New Zealand to follow up.
  • Responsible for extracting information from the Animal Welfare database for managers. Mō te peka - About the Branch Compliance Services supports MPI by delivering compliance and enforcement activities for legislation administered by MPI.
  • We partner with others using a wide variety of proactive and responsive approaches to :

  • improve voluntary compliance and ensure that New Zealanders understand the rules
  • change behaviours through education and statutory instruments (Notices of Direction, Infringements, Prosecution)
  • create effective deterrents to illegal activities across the primary sectors. What we do
  • Develop and deliver proactive and responsive programmes for animal welfare, fisheries, food safety and suitability, NAIT and other MPI administered legislation
  • Work with staff across MPI (Policy, Legal, and Communications) to provide a level of confidence in MPI's regulatory systems and achieve best practice
  • Work with co-regulators, other agencies, iwi, and public interest groups on sector issues. Mōu - About You You will have :
  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
  • A good knowledge of farming
  • Knowledge of the NAIT system
  • A good knowledge of computer databases and Excel spread sheeting
  • Proven excellent communication skills with recent previous experience in communicating (both written and verbal) with frontline staff and the public on a regular basis
  • Positive attitude and are flexible, adaptable, innovative and thrives on new challenges.While it's desirable that you have knowledge of animal welfare law in New Zealand, this is not essential as you will receive training.
