Job SummaryTrimble Weighing Solutions is continuing with the strategic goal to create the Connected Quarry (CQ). The intent of the CQ system is to allow Aggregates Producers to see all the critical actions and interactions for an entire site (or group of sites) and provide them with actionable insights in order to optimise their operation.
The CQ system produces highly valuable Insights on the interactions of the components (excavators, loaders, haul trucks, crushers, screens etc) that form the whole aggregates manufacturing process.
What you'll do?A previous project allowed us to acquire a set of baseline data that is used for simulation and verification.
This has proven extremely valuable. However the time and expense (along with travel restrictions) makes it challenging to capture further datasets that cover a wider range of operations.
The next step therefore is to produce a controllable simulation / modelling tool. The task of this intern would be to work with members of the Weighing Solutions Core Technology team to produce a simulation tool.
This simulation will model not only the aggregates production process, but also the real world’ action of sensors (pressure transducers, angle sensors, GPS, vibration sensors and more).
These sensor signals will then feed our actual on machine hardware for simulation and testing.The simulation tool will be built using standard 3D modelling and physics engine tools.
Specifically Unity (a widely used game development and professional modelling tool).Tasks will include developing the core assets (machine models), using off the shelf 3D models and adding the physics components to drive the sensor outputs.
Visits to local customer sites, along with the extensive experience of the in house team, will be used help develop the algorithms for how the various machines interact with each other and the physical world.
