Our Teams look after the vital behind the scenes aspects of keeping our services running smoothly and safely. We actively maintain the rail network, and work continuously towards improvements across our tracks, locomotives and rolling stock.
In this role you will join our Ballast Cleaner Group based in Christchurch where you will be responsible for operating associated plant and machinery.
Ideally our preferred candidate will have Rail, heavy machinery or construction / labouring industry experience. This role is hands on with and also involves assisting mechanical staff service and repair the Track Machines.
Although this position is based in Christchurch, you will be required to work throughout the KiwiRail Network. This means that you will need to be available to travel and spend time significant periods away from home.
This role is 10 days on 4 days off
An adequate level of physical fitness to meet the demands of this position is required; you will need to be comfortable working outdoors in all conditions.

As a Team player with experience working in small tight knit teams you must be able to take direction, and follow our Rail operating processes, rules and codes.
