    About the role

    Reporting to the Head of Commercial - Merchandise, this role is a key leadership role within the Merchandise Team

    As well as leading the development, management and execution of Countdown’s category development strategies and plans, the role provides essential links within the Merchandise team.

    It supports important cross divisional relationships with other teams including Marketing, Operations, Format & Renewal and includes extensive engagement with the senior executive team.

    The leadership and ongoing transformation of Countdowns category review, processes and outcomes is a primary responsibility, as is the development of category strategy capability across the Merchandise team in general

    The role is responsible for leading the delivery of customer centric category insights to optimise category decision making, and will include the development of strong relationships with third party information and insight providers.

    With a strong commercial lense and significant Category strategy experience, your key responsibilities will include :

  • Leadership, coaching and development of talent and performance management for the Category Development Team
  • Category strategy leadership and development
  • Cross divisional collaboration across Merchandise, Marketing and Operations teams
  • Project planning, budget controls and resource management
  • Merchandise team collaboration and influence to deliver required commercial objectives
  • Building and nurturing connected relationships into Group, and wider WWNZ teams
  • Senior stakeholder management and subsequent executive engagement and influencing
  • About you

    This role requires a strong communicator and someone with excellent relationship management skills. We need someone who can inspire new ways of thinking and excellence across Category Development.

    To be successful in this role we expect your background will reflect :

  • Significant Customer and Commercial Category strategy development experience
  • Excellent understanding of the Merchandise area
  • A passion for FMCG
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Inspiring leadership and management capability with the ability to make clear decisions
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and complete tasks in a demanding environment
  • A strong motivation and curiosity to research contemporary and innovative category and retail trends
  • Strong analytical and presentation skills
