Reporting to the Data & Analytics Lead, the Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is responsible for :

Contribute to the ongoing development / enhancement of Cigna’s Business Intelligence data infrastructure

Providing reporting / data extracts that meet the Business Information requirements of all parts of Cigna

Help establish / develop / support a group of reporting power users within Cigna enabling them to meet the bulk of their own reporting needs

Contribute to our financial-related projects and initiatives.

Critical Tasks and Expected Contributions / Results :

Build data transformations, summaries and reports / extracts, delivering a robust / reliable BI service, with a focus on financial systems (policy administration systems, billing and commission systems, account payables, general ledger, etc.

but also other systems as needed.

Build / generate standard or custom reports communicating business, financial, or economic information for review by the decision-makers

Ensure high quality development practices and processes are employed for software development

Collaborate with the BI team and key Business stakeholders in the development of an enterprise data dictionary

Assist the BI team in delivering a timely flow of business intelligence information to users to ensure they have the information required to fulfill their role

Provide input on appropriate software tools / technologies helping to ensure that Cigna remains up-to-date with evolving Business Intelligence trends

Provide support for the operational running / availability of Cigna’s data infrastructure and resolution of issues affecting the environment

Estimate development effort required for new build / enhancements / defect resolution

Create and maintain meta-data ensuring it is available to all users

Conduct Quality Assurance activities to ensure that the information provided is consistent with business needs resulting in high levels of confidence in that information and the broader Business Intelligence function

Engage in coaching / mentoring of more junior team members in areas of your strength

Conduct peer reviews of other team members’ code on an as required basis with a view to ultimately ensuring right first time delivery

Commit to continuous training and development to grow your skills and expertise

Experience / Education / Knowledge Requirements :

A tertiary qualification in Computer science, Information Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience

Some experience with Microsoft SQL Server or another SQL Relational Database Management System

Proven ability to write SQL, TSQL, and a working command of SSIS

Ability to gather user requirements

Theoretical knowledge of data warehousing principals would be advantageous

Expertise or interest in developing visual analytics experience using SQL Server Reporting Services would be an advantage

Exposure to other transformation pipelines and technologies, including PowerBI, Python, or other databases (relational and non-relational) would be a plus

Prior expertise on financial systems and concepts (IFRS-17, actuarial modelling, accounting, Prophet, Oracle GL, PeopleSoft GL) would also be a strong plus to quickly start on new initiatives in early 2021
