NMIT is seeking to appoint an innovative individual who has exceptional leadership skills and can drive forward the strategic development and delivery of Māori education across Te Tauihu o te Waka a Māui.

The primary focus is to :

  • Contribute towards increasing participation and educational excellence of our Māori learners
  • Further develop, maintain and lead the implementation of Te Ara Wai, NMITs Māori Education strategy
  • Identify and develop opportunities for Iwi and Māori within NMIT's strategic objectives and investment plan
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with Iwi, the community, tertiary sector and schools.
  • A clear strategic direction and robust Investment Plan provides the basis for opportunities to develop provision, build relationships and carry NMIT forward as a bicultural Institution.

    We are seeking someone who will build on these strengths and grasp the opportunities for development that will truly benefit all Te Tauihu, 'Top of the South', Iwi and Māori and assist in meeting their education and training and development aspirations.

    You will have a strong knowledge of the education sector as well as a strong understanding of Tikanga Māori, and te reo Māori, effective written and oral communication skills, reliable and effective organisational skills, able to work as part of a team and the ability to build excellent relationships with local Iwi and Māori organisations, tertiary sector and staff.

    Reporting to the Chief Executive, this is an influential role and the person appointed will have significant successful experience in developing and implementing key strategies.

    They will have responsibility for strategic development and liaising with the Māori community stakeholders. They will also be able to demonstrate the drive, determination and enthusiasm necessary to develop the Māori aspirations within the NMIT Investment Plan and across NMIT to improve the quality of provision and ensure the best possible education and training for learners, Iwi and employers in Te Tauihu o Te Waka a Māui.
