  • A permanent, full-time opportunity with a minimum of 40 hours per week is available in the role of Custodian / Gardener based in Wanaka.

    Please note , successful applicants will be required to work on weekends, and will be asked to complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

    QLDC are seeking an individual with a can-do attitude, great communication skills, and an eye for detail. The Gardener / Custodian is responsible for using a wide variety of amenity horticultural skills to carry out the development and maintenance of the Council’s Parks & Reserves areas.

    This role is also responsible for effectively managing the cleanliness and presentation of Wanaka Town Centre.

    Key areas of responsibility include :

  • Ensuring the pristine condition of Wanaka Town Centre is maintained using appropriate methods, including litter and graffiti removal
  • Maintaining perennial, rose bed and native areas as well as, leaf removal, mulching and chemical application
  • Providing accurate and friendly advice to visitors, promoting the friendly, customer-oriented image of QLDC
  • Safe operation of high value machinery and equipment
  • About You

    The successful candidate will hold :

  • High School Certificate (level 2 or above) NCEA
  • A current first aid certificate is desirable
  • Current full & clean New Zealand Drivers Licence, with the ability to drive manual
  • 2 years hands on experience in an amenity horticulture or general garden maintenance roles
  • Competent with the effective and safe use of machinery and equipment
  • Ability to work in all weather and climatic extremes.
  • A good level of health and physical fitness; role requires heavy lifting
