About the opportunity :

The HBRC CDEM group is looking for a positive-minded Emergency Management Advisor to join our small but high-profile team of emergency management staff.

The CDEM group work collaboratively with other councils, partner organisations and the community to increase community resilience in the Hawke’s Bay and develop our capacity to respond and recover from emergencies.

This position is based at our Hastings office but may spend time in Napier and at times will need to travel across the region.

The key focus of this role will be actively working with our partner councils to ensure we have the capability to respond to any events that occur anywhere in our region.

Reporting to the Team Leader Operational Readiness, you will be responsible for coordinating the development of response personnel’s skills in emergency management, as well as implementing the training and exercising programme that is delivered to local councils and other response partners.

Sound knowledge of civil defence emergency management would be an advantage. You will need to be calm in a crisis and able to work under pressure.

This is a permanent, full - time role. Due to the nature of the role, you will need to be flexible and be able to work on call 24 hours, seven days a week either on an individual basis or as part of a rostered team approach.

You will be someone who has a passion for training and development, an engaging facilitation style and strong relationship building skills.

Understanding of the New Zealand emergency management framework and the delivery of operational capability would be an advantage.

Alongside this you will have :

  • A recognised tertiary qualification or certificate / diploma (Level 5 or above) or significant experience in a discipline relevant to human resources, training, emergency management, risk management and / or hazard management.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in emergency management or a related field would be of advantage.
  • Experience in training development and exercise writing would be of advantage, including use of learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated facilitation and engagement skills.
  • The salary range for this role is between $77,000 to $84,000 dependant on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
