In this exciting new role within a realigned team, you will have the opportunity to exercise fresh thinking and cutting-edge initiatives.

Whakatāne District Council is seeking a planner with the skills and enthusiasm to develop the District's open spaces and properties through quality placemaking approaches.

Working within the Places and Open Spaces team, you will develop, maintain, and continuously review key strategies and policies relating to Council's public open space areas and properties.

You will build collaborative and enduring relationships with key stakeholders and user groups to ensure that Councillors, Community Boards, iwi, and our diverse communities are appropriately engaged in developing open spaces and addressing issues.

You will need :

  • A recognised qualification in Parks and Reserves / Urban Planning or equivalent experience
  • Experience in working with stakeholders, undertaking consultation, and developing partnerships, and building sustained relationships
  • A thorough knowledge of the Local Government Act, Reserves Act, RMA
  • Ability to identify and embrace opportunities for beneficial change
