The Porirua Community Mental Health Team (PCMHT) clinically support mental health service users when they are experiencing moderate to severe periods of mental illness that require assessment, treatment and support to assist the individual and their whānau along the recovery journey, back to primary health care.

This is a multidisciplinary team consisting of psychology, psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy and social workers.

They cover Johnsonville and Newlands in the South to Pukerua Bay in the North and Pauatahanui in the East. The client group is diverse and they cover a broad-

spectrum both socioeconomically and culturally. PCMHT is a strengths focused team that uses the Choice and Partnership model of service delivery to guide the provision of care to service users in the Porirua catchment area.

The PCMHT is contracted to meet the mental health needs of 3% of this population who have moderate to severe mental illness.

They are one of nine general adult community mental health teams in the Capital and Coast, Hutt and Wairarapa District Health Boards.

Specialist services also cater to specific population groups eg. Maori Mental Health, Health Pacifica, Maternal or Community Drug and Alcohol Services.

Other teams use the PCMHT's location to see their clients - CATT Team, the Early Intervention Team, the Intellectual Disability Team, the Regional Personality Disorder Team and the Forensic Service Team among others.

All these services contribute to the care of clients in the region. They also run Groups from the base at varying times throughout the year.

This role is 32 hours per week.

  • Care Manager
  • Acute Mental Health work
  • Mental Health Assessment and Therapeutic work
  • Full participation in the Multidisciplinary Team Process

  • Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse.
  • A current practising certificate.
  • Post Graduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing
  • Active involvement and progression along the PDRP and by Expert RN level a post graduate qualification or working towards this or equivalent learning.
  • RNs must achieve competent level within 1 year of employment within the team and then be actively working on progression towards Proficient / Expert in keeping with the nature of the role.

  • Current NZ Drivers licence
