The Role : What This Opportunity's All About

We have a permanent, full-time position for a Health Promoter who is passionate about working in the community.

Community and Public Health provides public health services to people living throughout Canterbury, South Canterbury and the West Coast.

As a Health Promoter working in the Christchurch office, you will seek to improve population health outcomes, especially around food environments, nutrition and food security.

You will work across a variety of settings, with a focus on equity and the social determinants of health. You will also be working with the broader Canterbury DHB and NGO sector providing health promotion advice and support including evidence of best practice and appropriate evaluation methods.

Critical to the role will be your ability to manage process, deliver on tight timeframes and demonstrate a high level of accuracy.

Your attention to detail will be second to none and your initiative and outstanding interpersonal skills will make you a great team player.

A background and / or experience in public health nutrition would be an advantage but you will also link in to activities and initiatives such as hauora Māori, wellbeing and resilience, smoke free, physical activity to support to strengthen community capacity for healthy living, learning and working.

Ideal candidate

As a strong team player you'll enjoy a collaborative work style and will be the face of health in the community. You will have a passion for healthy living and demonstrate proven leadership skills in bringing stakeholders in education together, with a focus on improving the wellbeing of the community.

You will empower them to act in a way that makes active travel and road safety the norm.

Skills and experience :

  • A commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and to working in a bi-cultural manner
  • Experience of promoting health to children, young people and their communities
  • Experience in the education setting
  • Project management experience
  • Experience and / or qualification in promoting physical activity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Competent computer skill
