As the Operations Supervisor you will assist the Tourism Manager with the day to day operation of Big Sky Stargazing and the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre (Museum / Theatre), ensuring exceptional service and efficient operation of the departments.

You will work alongside all tourism businesses to ensure cohesive service and effective sales of products and activities.

Key Activities : -

  • Supervision of and setting up and aligning telescopes
  • Operating the SKYSKAN Planetarium system
  • Ensure all guests are greeted for the stargazing tour and introductions are provided
  • Organise theatre set up, crowd control and admission to theatre and Guest Services
  • Present commentary to each group for both the indoor and outdoor tours
  • Provide knowledge and information in regard to the local area, activities, environment and features of the stargazing tour
  • Follow all safety procedures and advise guests of safety precautions. Demonstrate knowledge of Health and Safety and required reporting procedures in accordance to hotel standards
  • Rostering and Supervision of Big Sky Stargazing / SEHAC Staff
  • Work alongside and guide Guest Services when required
  • Development of Standard Operating Procedures to ensure best practices are followed in conjunction with the Tourism Manager
  • Provide information about the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre and its products, activities, attractions and transportation options within and around the surrounding areas of the National Park,
  • Accurately make reservations and issue tickets using the appropriate ticketing system for all activities including the museum and theatre
  • Undertake cashiering including cash handling, credit card, foreign exchange, EFTPOS, guest room charging and balancing at the end of day in conjunction with the Guest Services Supervisors
  • Provide a high level of customer service, advising them on products and actively upselling to customers
  • Liaising with activity guides and activity operations to ensure cohesion of service and provide accurate communications to our guests
  • Experience Required : -

  • Experience at a Supervisory level within a tourism field - minimum 1 year
  • Proven experience leading a team
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft office and booking systems
  • Strong time management, mentoring / coaching, problem solving abilities
  • Knowledge and a passion for Astronomy and be familiar with telescopes
  • Specific knowledge of and experience in Skyspan Planetarium systems is beneficial
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to speak in front of groups with confidence and enthusiasm
  • Knowledge of local area / activities and our environment beneficial
  • Previous tour guide experience essential
