The New Zealand Police Southern District Intelligence Group, based in Dunedin, have a vacancy for a Lead or Senior Intelligence Analyst.

  • The Southern District Intelligence Group provides analytical intelligence product and support at District and Area level;
  • Otago Coastal, Southland and Otago Lakes Central

    The purpose of this role is to contribute to crime and crash reduction and the prevention and disruption of criminal activity by preparing nationally-

    standardised intelligence products that inform and support prevention, intervention and enforcement activities. The role within our organisation is to lead the activities for Our Business and enable our people to deliver them.

    Skills you will be able to :

  • Demonstrate analytical thinking.
  • Apply analytical techniques to interpret information for intelligence analysis
  • Develop and apply intelligence processes and principles
  • Research, analyse, critically examine crime and criminality, and write intelligence products to assist decision makers
  • Manage competing demands and high workload at times.
  • Provide clear and concise verbal briefings (Senior) / Present complex issues (written and verbal) clearly to a range of audiences (Lead)
  • Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external)
  • Coach and mentor junior staff (Senior) / Mentor, develop and lead members of the team (Lead)
  • Use Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) to develop a high standard of reports / presentations.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of plans, projects or initiatives (Lead only)
  • Skills are for both level of senior and lead intelligence analyst unless stipulated.

    Experience you will have :

  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) to develop a high standard of reports / presentations.
  • Experience or extensive experience (in case of Lead) writing clear, succinct and useful documents.
  • Experience or extensive experience (in case of Lead) in using a variety of tools and techniques to understand a problem, develop solutions and effectively influence and inform decision making.
  • Experience or extensive experience (in case of lead) presenting (written and verbal) complex issues clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Have an interest in crime and criminal justice.
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring (Senior) / Extensive experience of coaching, mentoring and leading individuals (Lead)
  • Experience of critically examining crime and criminal justice (Lead only)
  • Extensive experience influencing decision makers (Lead only)
  • Experience in contributing to the development of team plans and new initiatives (Lead only)
  • An understanding of the government sector (Lead only)
  • Experiences are for both level of senior and lead intelligence analyst unless stipulated.

    Special Requirements : Applicants must :

    Applicants must :

  • Hold the National Diploma in Intelligence Analysis or equivalent. If the NDIA is not held, the applicant must have 2-3 years of relevant experience and be able to complete and submit the required NDIA modules within 15 months of employment.
  • Submit samples of work with their application (refer link above).
  • Be a New Zealand Citizen or have permanent residency and be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance.
  • Remuneration Range :

  • Senior Intelligence Analyst - $64,042 - $87,729
  • Lead Intelligence Analyst - $84,439 - $104,178
