Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor , College of Sciences Albany The College of Sciences at Massey University is seeking to appoint a senior academic (professor) to lead the newly formed School of Construction and Built Environment.

The School is in development phase and is currently within the School of Engineering and Advanced Technology.

The new School will evolve from these roots to become a separate entity within the wider College of Sciences.

The School is expected to be operational from 1 January 2019, and this senior academic appointment is the first step towards building this new School.

This appointee, in conjunction with the Pro Vice-Chancellor - Sciences and relevant College staff, will have an opportunity to help shape the structure and future of the School prior to its implementation.

Massey University’s Construction undergraduate and postgraduate programmes have experienced considerable growth in the past five years.

The Massey University Bachelor of Construction is the only construction degree delivered by a university in New Zealand.

It currently has two majors : Quantity Surveying and Construction Management.

Both majors are Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors accredited.

The Quantity Surveying major is also accredited by the Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors and The New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors.

The construction programmes have been acknowledged as exemplars of work integrated education.

Massey University also has a thriving postgraduate construction programme.

We commenced a taught Postgraduate Diploma and Masters of Construction in 2005, which is providing higher education to both domestic and international students.

There are currently five specialisations in the postgraduate offering including Construction Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Technology, Construction Law, and Facilities Management.

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the College of Sciences, this is a permanent professorial appointment to the College.

The appointment to Head of School of Construction and Built Environment will be for a fixed period of five years, with the potential to negotiate an extension at the end of that period, or revert to the permanent professorial position.

As the successful appointee, you will be an experienced academic, ideally with a track record of leading large groups and a passion for excellence in teaching and research, and the advancement of the new school.

You will possess an inspiring vision which will shape the future strategic direction, academic development and academic achievement of the School.

Sound financial planning and management skills, along with superior human resource management abilities are all essential competencies required to be successful in this role.
