New Zealand Red Cross (NZRC) is a member National Society of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), which is the world's largest humanitarian organization.

NZRC plays a vital role in providing assistance to vulnerable people in New Zealand and overseas whose lives have become vulnerable through conflict, disaster or circumstance.

We are an organization with over 15,000 voluntary members and 450 staff and we have an exciting opportunity for a Humanitarian Services Coordinator covering Waikato Area.

This position will supervise NZRC Humanitarian services and activities delivered across the area and is responsible to the Humanitarian Development Manager.

The Humanitarian Service Coordinator also works in partnership with local NZRC Area Councils, Branches and Groups. A feature role is building relationships with external organisations to create opportunities for humanitarian activity in the area.

In this role you will provide :

  • Successful operation of humanitarian services
  • Develop new humanitarian activity alongside staff, area councils and branches using community development principles and practices
  • Support NZRC members to plan and run humanitarian activities that address vulnerability in their communities
  • Supervise direct reports at the service centres
  • Liaise with area councils branches and groups and work together to mobilise membership to deliver programmes, promote NZRC and raise funds
  • Regular communication and good cooperation with local staff, members and volunteers involved in Migrations Programmes, Retail, Education and Training and any other key part of NZRC
  • Ensure staff, members and volunteers are informed of and understand the health, safety and wellbeing requirements to be followed and are adequately trained to carry out their work safely.

  • Understand community and / or youth development / empowermentSensitivity towards and ability to consult with people from different lifestyles and social and economic backgrounds
  • A relevant qualification, tertiary preferred.
