Job Description

Do you know how to get others engaged and active in supporting conservation? We have a unique opportunity for a passionate educator with great people skills to join the Te Anau Operations Team and inspire others about the wonder of Fiordland National Park.

As Ranger, Community you will be part of a highly motivated small team that manages community and commercial engagement in the Te Anau District.

Your role will focus on working with community groups, education providers, iwi and individuals to increase conservation in our very special corner of New Zealand.

You will be responsible for

  • Working with local education providers, community groups and iwi on projects that deliver value to conservation
  • Identifying opportunities to promote conservation
  • Lifting awareness and educating others on the wonder of New Zealand's natural and cultural heritage, and the work of the Department in this context
  • Expanding and delivering the Te Anau District annual events programme
  • Managing the District's social media channels; assisting with developing media stories that promote conservation activities in Fiordland
  • Supporting other team members in building new partnership opportunities
  • The ideal applicant will :

  • Have a tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience relevant to this role
  • Be able to demonstrate experience in project management and / or working with the community, education providers, iwi or businesses
  • Be passionate and knowledgeable about conservation
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be able to demonstrate successes in educating / facilitating children as well as adults
  • Be a strong networker, able to develop and maintain positive working relationships across a broad range of internal and external groups
  • Be media savvy with excellent skills in presenting information clearly, concisely and appropriately
  • Have knowledge and experience in planning and organising projects, from the ideas stage through to implementation and evaluation.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
