Our Hospital Friends volunteers provide comfort and support to patients and their whanau. When patients are in hospital for lengthy stays, having familiar faces around can make their stay happier and more comfortable.

Hospital Friends provide someone to sit and talk to, to read with or to be a shoulder to lean on. The overall aim of the Hospital Friend's program is to provide non-

clinical comfort, information and support to patients and those who support them.

As a Volunteer , you will play a key part in ensuring excellent service is maintained in North Shore Hospital , by assisting and supporting the Team Leader, and providing on-

going support to the Hospital Friends Service.

About the role :

  • Support and assist the Team Leader for the Hospital Friends service
  • Assist with the recruitment of new volunteers including; assessments, interviews, selection, reference checks and training
  • Provide assistance with on-going support / training of volunteers and follow up on any welfare needs when required
  • Co-ordinate roster as needed, ensuring it is covered to the best possible level, with relievers arranged to fill absences
  • Liaise with volunteers and Hospital staff
  • Proactively participate as a member of the team
  • Contribute to a safe and healthy workplace
  • Key things about you :

  • Self-motivated, like variety and can commit to 5-10 hours each week
  • Caring and empathetic with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of others
  • Exceptional communication and listening skills are essential, as is an ability to build and maintain strong relationships
  • An aptitude for working with a diversity of cultures
  • Experience and the ability to problem solve, lead a team and be a team-player
  • A strong customer focus
  • Open to change and new ways of working
  • Computer literate to perform required administrative tasks
  • Ultimately, we are looking for someone who will bring passion to this crucial function within the St John Hospital Friends Service.

    Note : Due to the nature of this role, we are only able to consider volunteers who are able to commit for a minimum of 12 months.
