Advanced Training for Year 5 and 6 Trainees Waikato District Health Board Full Time Waikato DHB is excited to be able to offer advanced RANZCOG training for year 5 and 6 trainees in a number of specialist gynaecology areas including gynae oncology, minimal access surgery, urogynaecology and colposcopy.
The unit has full RANZCOG accreditation and from Dec 2018 we will be training Core RANZCOG trainees.
The obstetric service offers tertiary level care with over 5000 deliveries across the DHB per year. There are ample opportunities for Year 5 trainees to gain surgical competence in the advanced O&G procedures that require APSS (Assessment of Procedural and Surgical skills) by the end of Year 5, as well as completion of the colposcopy in-house assessment (IHA).
For Year 6 trainees, there is chance of gaining acting-up SMO experience on the delivery unit with back up SMO support as well as surgical mentoring to develop independent gynaecological operative experience in readiness for their future SMO role.
Our base hospital in Hamilton is currently providing advanced training for four RANZCOG trainees, including one AGES Fellow and has previously provided the ATM (advanced training module) in urogynaecology.
The department has developed a strong teaching and training culture with protected weekly registrar teaching and multidisciplinary CTG education meetings.
There are also monthly perinatal morbidity & mortality meetings, high risk obstetric meetings colposcopy and gynae-oncology multidisciplinary meetings for ongoing professional development.
Individually tailored schedules with special interest focus and specific training needs may be further negotiated with successful applicants.
You may be required to contribute to the Registrar after hours roster, however we will ensure your training needs are met.
The DHB is happy to support medical education activity.
