Job Description

As a Ranger Services (Biodiversity) Fiordland you will be joining our talented Biodiversity team, based in Te Anau, carrying out critical natural heritage conservation work programmes.

You will have defined leadership responsibilities including the ability to plan and deliver technical work projects relating to :

  • ecosystem restoration;
  • threatened species management.
  • animal and plant pest control programmes;
  • Your day to day work will take you across the district, leading biodiversity work projects on and off public conservation land, according to work plans.

    Your skills and experience in natural heritage work will be vitally important in supervising others on the ground and for teaching, coaching, supporting and / or overseeing Rangers, community groups and volunteers doing conservation work.

    The successful applicant will have

  • a natural heritage or conservation management qualification
  • extensive experience in the practical management of threatened plant and animal populations and the execution of pest control operations
  • specialist experience / qualifications in either marine, freshwater, pest control or threatened plant and animal populations;
  • experience as technical lead of a work team
  • strong project management experience
  • skilled at coaching, training and supporting staff and the acquisition of technical knowledge
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
