We are seeking an outstanding Lawyer to join our team on a full-time basis to provide strategic and operational legal advice on a wide range of issues across the Council.

Reporting to the Group Manager you will also work closely with senior management and assist with various day-to-day legal matters.

You will provide sound legal advice to the Chief Executive and other members of the senior management team on legal matters affecting the Council to ensure daily operations meet statutory requirements.

You will join a Council whose vision is to work together to take Horowhenua from good to great. You will assist the team to present solutions, solve problems and provide efficient and pragmatic legal advice.

In addition to embodying this vision, the successful applicant will have the following :

  • The ability to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and experience working with legislation relevant to the public sector and Local Government.
  • Experience advising on a wide range of legal matters
  • Proven understanding of legal principles and practices with experience of providing practical legal advice to organisational leaders and managers
  • Proven experience in managing relationships and the ability to persuade and influence others.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of professionalism and objectivity
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Relevant tertiary legal qualifications
  • A current New Zealand practising certificate as a Barrister and Solicitor (or ability to obtain one)
