On May 25 2017, Electron made history as the first orbital-class launch vehicle to reach space from a private launch facility in New Zealand.

Rocket Lab is headquartered in Los Angeles and is a privately funded company with investors including Khosla Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Lockheed Martin, Promus Ventures and Data Collective.

About The Role

This role is based in New Zealand but we are looking for candidates from around the world to join the team to test and launch Electron rockets.

The rocket and the test infrastructure must be state of the art to ensure the tests are carried out successfully and efficiently.

Rocket Lab is looking for more engineers that can operate the Rutherford engine and the Electron launch vehicle through testing and launch campaigns.

Day to day you will be responsible for Rutherford engine and subcomponent qualification and acceptance testing.

This position is New Zealand based, work visa support will be provided by Rocket Lab.

In this role it is necessary to :

  • Take ownership of your work and meet deadlines that align with testing operations
  • Work on site at the engine and stage testing sites regularly
  • Work in the Mission Control Centre (MCC) for launch operations
  • Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Excellent understanding of pressure, temperature and flow physics of liquids and gases Excellent understanding of process and identification diagrams
  • Very good communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Able to work long hours and weekends as needed for test and launch operations
  • Preferred Requirements

  • Liquid rocket engine testing experience
  • Launch vehicle operations experience
  • Excellent understanding of measurement techniques for pressure, temperature and flow
  • Excellent hands on skills for installation of hardware and instrumentation
  • Experienced with National Instruments hardware and software
  • Experienced with Matlab and Python
  • Experienced with Solidworks
  • Important Information
