    The Department of Corrections manages the prison and community-based sentences imposed by the Courts. The Department provides information to Courts to assist with sentencing and to the New Zealand Parole Board in relation to risk assessment.

    Central Region Psychological Services / Corrections Services is one of the service-delivery arms of the Department of Corrections.

    The Central Region team plays a key role in the provision of specialist clinical assessment and treatment services to offenders within Probation and Prison.

    Psychological Services provide training to Case Management and Programme Delivery staff, and Prison Service and Probation Service staff in areas that involve psychological expertise.

    Psychological Services are committed to providing service in a culturally appropriate manner and the Central Region Psychological Service has access to cultural supervision.

    As an Intern Psychologist you are accountable to the Principal Psychologist, Central Region Psychological Services / Corrections Services, and are a key member of a professional team which provides effective service delivery.

    Specifically, you are responsible for :

  • Providing quality psychological services including clinical assessment, treatment and referral to appropriate agencies where necessary.
  • Developing working relationships with other services, agencies and groups.
